MST developed from Remedial Massage, and offers a more advanced assessment and treatment option.
We can use many techniques including massage, stretching, joint mobilisation and even dry needling to treat your pain.
Our MST's will explain what is going on, plan a treatment regime and develop a rehab plan with you.
What is Musculoskeletal Therapy (MST)?
Musculoskeletal Therapy is a physical medicine that concentrates on the assessment, treatment and management of musculoskeletal pain and dysfunction. To qualify as an MST in Australia, our therapists have completed a Bachelor Degree in Musculoskeletal Therapy.
MST involves an in depth physical assessment, using postural evaluations, orthopaedic and neurological testing, movement and biomechanical investigations. Our aim is to determine the cause of your pain and associated dysfunction.
Building on other massage treatments such as sports massage and remedial massage, Musculoskeletal Therapy offers a more advanced assessment and diagnosis of your condition. Our MST’s can use many different techniques such as massage, joint mobilisation, trigger point therapy, facilitated stretching or dry needling and cupping, providing you with a safer, more comprehensive treatment.
We aim to not only treat your symptoms, but discover the cause of your pain and address it so you get longer lasting results. We will also help you to create a home rehabilitation plan to help reduce your recovery time.
Musculoskeletal Therapy can range from one appointment to a course of treatment, to maintenance and sports massage treatments.
Our MST’s are also trained and experienced in treating people with diagnosed musculoskeletal / neurological conditions such as Osteo- Arthritis, Disc Bulges, Multiple Sclerosis, Ankylosing Spondilitis, Cerebral Palsy, Rhumatoid Arthritis, Lupus, Fibromyalgia and other conditions.
If you have any special needs, our MST’s are able to formulate a specific treatment plan taking these needs into account.
At your first appointment, your Musculoskeletal Therapist will take a relevant medical history, discuss your goals for treatment and assess your movement, stance and posture. We may perform some orthopaedic tests to identify the cause of your pain. We will then discuss our findings and possible treatment options with you.
After assessment, we will begin treatment with you. It is always worth booking an hour for your initial appointment so we can comprehensively assess and treat you. Treatment techniques can include:
During your appointment, our MST’s will help you formulate a home rehabilitation plan to continue your healing at home. We will discuss your prognosis and treatment plan with you, including whether follow up treatments are indicated.
